Zambian President Edgar Lungu has announced the reopening of all international airports in the country.
He announced this as part of easing the Covid-19 lockdown in an address to the nation on Thursday (25th June) evening.
In his address, President Lungu however said that bars and night clubs will continue to be closed until favorable weather conditions are experienced in the country.
The President said he was hopeful that the reopening of airports would reinvigorate the economy and steer growth.
“The reopening of all international airports will trigger the recovery of the tourism sector not only in Livingstone but the country at large. We have to get back to work fully under the new normal”.
He said he has directed the Ministers of Communications and Transport, Finance, Home Affairs, and Tourism to work together in ensuring stringent health guidelines, including follow-up of passengers who test positive and sending them into quarantine until they test negative.
Zambia was on a six-week lockdown after the first cases of Covid-19 was identified at the end of March.
Although schools, cinema halls, and restaurants have since reopened, economists say the pandemic has severely dented the nation’s economy.
