Uganda politician “disowns” daughter for contesting against him

A Ugandan politician has disowned his own biological daughter who has decided to run against him in the upcoming 2021 local elections.

His daughter Reginah Nakiweewa is seeking to challenge her father, Godfrey Kimera from the district of Kyotera, who is the chairperson of the Kasaali Town Council.

Kimera is not amused by his daughter’s decision to contest the same position he currently occupies and is seeking re-election next year.

Nakiweewa’s father, a Democratic Party member is adamant his daughter is being disrespectful but she says there is no personal vendetta but that the reason why she is vying for the same post his dad is eying is because he has broken his promise to the constituents.

“I have on several occasions asked her to step down, but she has refused. I can’t tolerate such a daughter who shows no respect for elders. Let her look for another father,” Kimera said.

The 30-year-old Nakiweewa said when his dad was elected in 2011, he promised to only serve for two terms but he has broken that promise by seeking to be re-elected in next year’s elections.

“When I was still a child, my father used to tell us that we were the future leaders. I’m now mature and I am ready to take on the mantle from him,”

She accused his father of double standards and compared his stand to that of Uganda’s long-time President and one of the longest serving African leaders, Yoweri Museveni who at 75, Museveni will contest in the 2021 presidential race for a sixth term in office.

“He is also the one who always says that Mr. Museveni has ruled for long. Does he also want to take the same direction?” Nakiweewa questioned.

She who intends to stand as a Justice Forum candidate and maintains she is not intimidated by his dad threats said: “He will always be my father.”
