A new crowd farming platform was announced on Friday to help the Rwandan diaspora to support agribusiness in Rwanda.
Named SHORAWEZE, the platform will connect small-scale farmers with investors allowing them to access affordable capital.
According to the founders of SHORAWEZE:” With organic chia seeds, the sponsor makes a pledge of 1800$ per 1 hectare of land so we can farm for him. We sort, clean, and sell the produce after harvest. Once it is sold, we give them a % of their initial sponsorship amount plus the upfront they paid at the beginning of the season.
A farming cycle of chia is 3 months, and the payout is every 4 months, so 2-3 times a year in total depending on the availability of the land. “
With the sponsor’s capital and Shoraweze’s expertise, small-scale farmers can generate higher yields from their farming activities.
The win-win initiative is open to any farmer looking into scaling up his production and learning new Agri-tech solutions.
About 75% of Rwanda’s agricultural production comes from smallholder farmers.
Agriculture contributes about 31% to GDP and stands out as one of the most strategic sectors in Rwanda’s development.
