Rwandan billionaire Tribert Rujugiro Ayabatwa, who operates in several African countries joined other donors in the fight against coronavirus.
Through his two companies in Uganda, the Meridian Tobacco Company based in Arua and Leaf Tobacco and Commodities, Rujugiro, contributed sh250m to the Uganda National Response Fund to COVID-19.
Rujugiro’s contribution was handed over to Mary Karooro Okurut, the Minister in charge of General Duties who is also the overseer of the National Response Fund chaired by Emmanuel Katongole.
Tribert Rujugiro Ayabatwa’s PTG-hld through Leaf Tobacco and Commodities Nigeria Ltd (LTCN), also joined the battle against Covid19 in Nigeria.
The contributions included food and medical equipment like PCR machines, ventilators, and X-ray machines
Reacting to the donation, SSG Balarabe Abbas Lawal, Kaduna State Representative revealed that it was the single largest donation made to aid the state relief efforts to date. Going further he said.
“Rujugiro continues to join government leaders to battle Covid19 in countries where he does business”, his spokesman, David Himbara told The African Gazette.
