Speaking in a State of the Nation address, before the Russian political and military elite, a defiant Vladimir Putin vowed to continue what he calls a “ special military operation” until he achieved his aims in Ukraine.
He blamed the West for starting and escalating the war, saying Western countries were seeking “limitless power” in world affairs.
“I want to repeat, it was them who started the war. And we used – and are using -force to stop it,” he said.
Putin also accused the U.S.-led NATO alliance of fanning the flames of the conflict.
During his visit to Warsaw, US President Joe Biden said, “the coalition is not just about defending nations and protecting Ukraine, but also about building prosperity, peace, and respect worldwide”.
He reveals how allies will announce more sanctions this week together so they can “seek justice for the crimes against humanity committed by Russia”.
President Putin exuded confidence that Russia could survive international sanctions and emerge victorious.
Meanwhile, South Africa is hosting a 10-day military exercise with China and Russia, which coincides with the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
