The saga of imported Bahraini athletes failing dope test continues as one more Nigerian-Bahraini athlete is banned for four years.
Kemi Adekoya was part of the 4×400 mixed relay team that won gold in the 2018 Asian Games.
Adekoya failing the dope test led the team to be disqualified and the result erased.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of World Athletics-the the global governing body for the sport-said the “she tested positive for banned steroid stanozolol and has been banned for four years”.
The 27-year-old athlete switched from Nigerian to Bahraini Nationality in 2014. She was part of the quartet which also had another Nigerian born Bahraini athlete Abbas Abubakar Abbas.
India which secured Silver in the championship has been upgraded to Gold medal status.
The Bahraini team also consisted of world record holder Salwa Eid Naser, who also switched her Nigerian nationality.
Salwa Eid Naser has been provisionally suspended for missing the mandatory dope test. The African Gazette reported it in June this year.
The AIU has said that Adekoya’s results between August 24, 2018, and November 26, 2018, will be disqualified.
Adekoya also loses her 400 meters title which will now go to Vietnam’s Quách Thị Lan
