Bujumbura, May 31 (AG): The First Lady of Burundi Denise Bucumi Nkurunziza is being treated at Kenya’s Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi after contracting Covid-19.
Our correspondent in Bujumbura said Mrs Nkurunziza was airlifted to Nairobi on Thursday morning.
Burundi has officially recorded 42 cases and one death from the coronavirus.
Last week, the Burundian government denied reports that its health minister Thaddée Ndikumana is being treated for coronavirus in Kenya.
The Burundi government ordered the country’s top World Health Organization (WHO) representative and three other experts coordinating the coronavirus response to leave the country.
