Michael Jordan and the Jordan Brand are giving $100 million to organizations dedicated to promoting racial equality and social justice.
Nike had committed on Friday (5.6.20) funding of over $40 million over four years to support the black community.
Jordan and Jordan Brand took released a joint statement on Twitter on Friday.
“Black lives matter. This isn’t a controversial statement. Until the ingrained racism that allows our country’s institutions to fail is completely eradicated, we will remain committed to protecting and improving the lives of Black people” the tweet said.
His support for racial equality comes in the wake of continued global protest demanding justice for the killing of George Floyd.
George Floyd-a black American- was strangulated to death by a white racist police officer who has been charged with second-degree murder and other three officers present at the scene during Floyd’s killing are charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.
Jordan Brand is us, the Black community the tweet emphasized. Craig Williams, President of Jordan Brand said, “We must join forces with the community, government and civil leaders to create a lasting impact together”.
The brutal killing of George Floyd has again exposed the undercurrent of racial discrimination deeply ingrained in American society.
“There is still more work for us to do to drive real impact for the Black Community. We embrace the responsibility” Craig Williams further said.
