President Edgar Lungu, has fired General Education Minister David Mabumba after images from a WhatsApp video call between a married woman and a naked and masturbating Minister went viral.

On the morning of July 29 shocked Zambians were awakened by the video released on social media by a man who claimed to be the husband of the lady the married minister was having the raunchy video call with.

In the leaked pornographic video and pictures, Mabumba is seen fondling his manhood while in a live video call to a woman now identified as Georgina Mupundu.

The husband who has also threatened to reveal dirtier said although their marriage experienced some problems, he had so much respect for his wife and the now ex-Minister but now he felt deeply hurt, heartbroken and embarrassed by their infidelity and betrayal. Some of the leaked conversations also reveal how the husband also tried to extort a house, farm, and car from the Minister.

“It has not been easy I kept those videos for a week and just two days ago I confronted the Minister he avoided my calls and only sent a message that he was in quarantine. I then forwarded everything I had on him with my wife Georgina, he then called offering K50,000 not to publish the content, I declined the offer because that was an insult to my marriage, apparently, I don’t know where my wife is and she has deactivated her FB account and her phone is dead off,” the husband is quoted by Zambian media.

On the day the videos went viral, the online community went into a frenzy and some social media enthusiasts advised Mabumba to resign on moral grounds but he waited until President Lungu dismissed him ‘with immediate effect’ that very same day.

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Isaac Chipampe, announcing the sacking of Mabumba also stated that President Lungu had transferred Minister of Water Development, Dennis Wanchinga,, to the Ministry of General Education. The Bwana Mukubwa Member of Parliament, Jonas Chanda was also appointed as the new Minister of Water Development.

Mabumba, who once also served as energy minister, was regarded by many Zambians as a hardworking man of integrity and strong morals as compared to the other ministers in Lungu’s government. Those who have come to his defense said he should not be judged for what he does with his private life and that the President should fire corruption accused ministers instead.

The National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister Rev Godfridah Sumaili called on parents to delete naked or obscene pictures and videos from their phones, saying they can destroy their reputation if they are leaked to the public. Rev Sumaili appealed to the public not to continue circulating the video as it was unethical and immoral since Mabumba is a family man. She added that whoever was involved in leaking the blue video is wicked.

Police said they are investigating the matter and Lusaka teacher and Facebook user, Moses Mwila, agreed with Rev Sumaili that people should be prosecuted for distributing or leaking porn.

“While it is difficult to police the social media, there is a need to regulate the recording and circulation of sex tapes especially when it is clear that the persons involved were not consulted,” commented Mwila.

Some of those who took to social media to voice their disgust said it was morally wrong for a married man who is a public official to humiliate his wife and family but some advised him to swallow his ego, ask for forgiveness by making a public apology, and accepting that he erred.

Chiefs and Traditional Affairs minister Lawrence Sichalwe was last year was involved in a pornography storm. This was while he was trying to delete an X-rated video from a different WhatsApp group, but ended up accidentally forwarding the obscene video to a WhatsApp group called “What Government is doing”.  Although Minister Sichalwe was not in the video, the youth members of the group from the ruling PF hauled him over hot coal for circulating the explicit content.
